BLACK SABBATH 'DELUXE EDITION'
Alors le résultat des courses concernant la réédition des LPs et CDs de Sabbath via Sanctuary Records et distribution de: Universal. Après achat, les LPs sont finalement collectors pour une bonne partie. Par exemple, le LP de Sabotage dispose d'une double pochette, illustrée cette dernière de façon exclusive pour cette édition. Idem double pochette pour Never Say Die, Technical Ecstasy, ce qui n'est pas courrant pour ces LPs. Les CDs, bon, là déception de terminer cette série par un simple CD! Le artwork interne est quand même bien soigné, mais nous attendions plus de cette édition. Nouveaux commentaires 2009 dans les livrets...mais bon, encore une édition de plus en CD pour pas grand chose....finalement.

Get ready to snap your neck once again. This album is thirty-seven years old, yet still contains more power and beauty in one track than most bands manage in entire lifetimes. The remastering adds the subtlest of polish to the masterpiece, ensuring maximum effect on the tinniest of speakers. Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward at the top of their game. It does not get any better. Even the ‘Lick My Love Pump’ cheesy rhymes of Changes tingle the spine and the stoned pissing-about FX doesn’t detract (well, not much). This is the crest of the Sabbath curve. It was downhill from here but what a height to achieve.

Warning: Rick Wakeman plays on this album. Don’t worry, though. Sabbath may be turning the self-indulgence knob to eleven but the results are still wonderful. You can see where metal’s early antipathy to keyboards began, though, listening to the likes of Sabbra Cadabra. It’s like Jools Holland jamming with Slayer. It’s just wrong. However, the riffs, atmosphere and thump are still present and the remastering once again warms things up perfectly - ideal for an album begun in a castle dungeon. Best enjoyed wearing a tasselled suede jacket (and nothing else), floating in a bath of vodka, with a cocaine atomiser.

I know it was 1975, but you’ve only to look at the cover of this album to know that this band were seriously fucked; Geezer appears to be auditioning for Brotherhood of Man, Iommi is a depressed genie, Ward is caught changing into his moonlighting role as Brum’s most frightening Santa and Ozzy has, once again, been pulled from the Acid Queen’s dressing-up box. Incredible that the album makes any sense at all, then. Astounding that it contains one of their best tracks (Symptom of the Universe). Unbelievable that the remastering has dealt successfully with the original’s tinny timbre (Megalomania excepted). Black Sabbath’s most under-rated album? I think so.

It may start relatively promisingly but this album was another big sign that the glory days of the original Sabbath line-up were over. The dark slabs of doom were being steadily broken in favour of bloated compositions seemingly aimed at some horrorshow Beatles or Queen musical. Check out It’s Alright, where Bill Ward emerges from behind the drums to make a good lead vocal fist on what should really be on some godforsaken Brian May solo album somewhere. Guns n’ Roses used to cover it. You remember them - they were the band who did such a fabulous version of Live And Let Die.
Elsewhere, from Gypsy onwards, we have the beginnings of Tony Iommi seemingly recording himself from the bottom of a tin well. This is something which the remastering has singularly failed to do anything about, which is a great pity but not unexpected. There is a touch more beef but really the songwriting and sound is as thin as it ever was. Indeed, at its worst it seems as if the band are a proto-Motley Crue. Nobody wants that.

I don’t know what was going on with this release, the final one before the resurgence provided by Mr. R. J. Dio. The band appears to be continuing their ‘new direction’ suggested in the previous release, Technical Ecstasy. Unfortunately, to continue the Spinal Tap references, it’s ‘Jazz Odyssey’ - check out Air Dance, or Breakout with its sax solo. Yes, sax solo. The jazz overtones which made the early albums so vital (see Hand of Doom from Paranoid, for example) now sound over-indulgent and nonsensical, like they’d made friends with Kenny G. As with the last album, the heaviness of old has all but gone. Over To You has echoes of it but that’s all they are - echoes. And pretty tinny ones, at that. A sorry end to the glory days with Ozzy but nothing lasts forever. He doesn’t even sing on the last track. Bill Ward does. Ah well.

Legendary heavy metal guitarist Tony Iommi (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH ) will be interviewed on BBC Radio 2's "The Radcliffe And Maconie Show" on Tuesday, October 20 between 9 and 10 p.m. (U.K. time). The program will be available to listen to for a week after the broadcast date.

As previously reported, Iommi will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guest on Friday, October 23 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio program, dubbed "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the broadcast live via the Internet between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. (midnight) U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.
The management for HEAVEN & HELL vocalist Ronnie James Dio released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET on August 27 in an attempt to "quash any rumors that [the group] have broken up." The statement read in part, "Tony Iommi has to have surgery on his hand and [needs] some down time for recovery. Therefore DIO [the band] will be performing some dates in the U.K. and Europe in November/December during this time off. HEAVEN & HELL are already making plans for dates next year."
In a recent interview with The Aquarian Weekly, Iommi stated about his surgery, "I've got to have an operation on my hand, and that's sort of a major thing I need to get done and I've been putting it off now. So we're going to have some time off while I get that done. That'll be a bit of a break, I think. Not for everybody, but it'll be some time off from touring for me for sure."
When asked what happened to his hand, Iommi replied, "The cartilage is gone from the thumb in my fingering hand. It's been like that now, to be honest, for a year and I've been taking anti-inflammatories and all sorts of stuff to try and calm it down, but it's inevitable I've got to have the operation because the bone is rubbing on the bone. Funny enough, I talked to Eddie Van Halen this morning, because he's had the same sort of problem, so I'm seeing him to have a chat about what happened to him. He thinks it's very successful, so we'll see."

BLACK SABBATH: DELUXE EDITION LA SUITE?
NON! c'est foutu, j'ai vu la suite de la réédition DELUXE, de Vol 4 à Never Say Die, en CD version 1 disque uniquement, donc, rien de plus à se mettre sous la dent! L'éditeur vient de saborder cette bonne idée! Il faudra donc se contenter des trois premiers CDs sous cette version . Les autres, un simple digipack de moyenne qualité, aucun bonus! En Lps c'est pareil, bref, c'est encore loupé! J'ai vu ces derniers en import, chez Gibert Joseph à Paris ce lundi, les LPs sont pas donnés presque 21 euros pièce, pour un simple, c'est cher! Shit!
OZZY & SABBATH...NEVER SAY DIE?

U.K.'s Birmingham Post recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.
On being a technophobe who can't even send an email:
"I don't even know how to turn a computer on. I dictate my e-mails and my assistant Tony loads songs onto my iPod.
"I know how to turn on the iPod, adjust the volume and sort out what I want on it but the rest of it, I'm lost. And they've all got iPhones now. I can't even make a call on one of those. I touch the screen and something else happens!"
On how, after spending the best part of 40 years on drugs and drink, the alcohol and pharmaceuticals began to take their toll:
"I had to come to a decision — do I want to kill myself with drugs and alcohol?
"In the old days, whenever I stopped boozing, I always used to think about the good times I was missing. Now all I think about is how the good times always turned bad.
"I couldn't tell you how much a pint of beer costs now, and I don't want to know. Which is amazing, considering how much my life used to revolve around the pub. I just ain't interested anymore."
On how the book "I Am Ozzy" came about:
"I didn't actually put pen to paper, I got someone (writer Chris Ayres) to ask me questions — what I remember about my childhood, and whatever.
"He would zone in on a specific thing that I was saying and he'd ask me to elaborate on it. Once it started coming out it was quite easy. At the end of the day, it only took about six weeks. It seemed to fly by."
On the possibility of a second volume being released in the future:
"I'd like to do something more in-depth later on,. How can you put my life in 400 pages? I've had such an amazing existence over the years.
"I remember saying to Chris, 'Have you got enough?' He said, ‘I've got more than enough, there's a lot of stuff I haven't got room to put in so I'm going to save it for another day.'
"Once I'm talking, it flies out of me."
On going back to Birmingham for last week's book signing where he took to opportunity to look again around his old house and school, Prince Albert, in Albert Road, and Winson Green Prison where he served three months for robbing Sarah Clarke's, a clothes shop in Aston:
"My son, Jack, is doing a documentary film on me and my life. I went down to my old house — it's still there but it's changed so much. The guy who owns it now has done a great job renovating it. It's nothing like it used to be."
On the fact that he has not given up on another BLACK SABBATH reunion despite on-going legal proceedings between him and guitarist Tony Iommi over the use of the band's name:
"With BLACK SABBATH, there's always some litigation going on. We're always having a go at each other, it's like being married, I suppose.
"As for getting back with the band, I never say never anymore. Just not right now. If something came up and it was worth doing it'd be stupid not to do it."

OZZY, Atteint du VIH?

Ozzy Osbourne avait reçu un résultat positif à un test du VIH, qui s’est finalement avéré être un mauvais résultat, rapporte Music-News.
Le rockeur a été dévasté en apprenant qu’il avait contracté le virus. Il a toutefois appris, à la suite d’une enquête médicale, que le résultat positif était dû à ses nombreuses années de consommation de drogue et d’alcool, qui ont causé beaucoup de dommage à son système immunitaire.
Osbourne a raconté:
«Je suis allé chez le docteur pour passer un test du SIDA et il m’a dit qu’il était positif. Ce fut l’un des pires jours de ma vie.»
Heureusement pour le chanteur, un nouveau test a permis de confirmer qu’il n’était pas atteint du virus. Il explique:
«Il s’avère que, parce que je buvais et consommais autant de drogues, mon système immunitaire s’est tellement affaibli que j’ai eu un résultat limite. Quand j’y suis retourné pour subir un autre test, le résultat a été négatif.»

Martin was recently forced to cancel his U.S. tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the SABBATH album "Headless Cross".

Chers lecteurs en ce moment je suis en plein déménagement, alors désolé, le blog est moins à jour, mais en même temps l'actu Sabbathique est un peu creuse! Je pense que les activités seront plus consistantes début 2010.

BLACK SABBATH DELUXE EDITION....UNE SUITE?
Il semble bien difficile de dénicher des infos fiables sur la suite des pressages 'Deluxe' proposés par Sanctuary Records. En effet, une sortie qui était à l'origine annonçée le 21 septembre pour les albums suivants: Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy et Never Say Die....mais au résultat... rien, enfin en regardant sur le site de la Fnac, je vois poindre une série correspondante à cette liste d'albums. Mais le seul hic, ils sont présentés sur le site en version 1 cd (remasterisé!), si j'ai bien compris. C'est très louche comme affaire. Fini la version 2cds 'Deluxe' ??? Les LP sont mentionnés également, mais, visiblement en simple. Le tout pour une sortie française éventuelle le 16 octobre! Alors...nouvelle arnaque???

| BLACK SABBATH Drummer Previews This Month's 'Rock 50' Show - Sep. 11, 2009 | |
BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward has issued the following update on this month's edition of his "Rock 50" monthly radio show, which airs between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. PST on WPMD, a college radio station at Cerritos College in California:
"The radio show airs on Saturday, September 19. Because it’s September, we will be playing songs as a tribute to those who perished and suffered during and after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01.
"Besides our hardcore songs, we'll also be playing some opera, folk, rock and pop songs.
"Our show has always been quick to support what we consider to be honorable gestures, and to divert slightly from our normal hardcore show is the least we can do to bring a wider selection of music to this sad anniversary. To not preserve the memories of that fatal day would be to render us amiss and without respect
"Rock 50", featuring its regular host Mike Stark, is broadcast over the Internet every Saturday. You can listen to the show live online at this location.

All of the Iranian records were released in extremely limited numbers. Those releases are from end 50s until begin70s when the last King of Persia (Shah) ruled the country. After change of regime in Iran the government closed all record companies and destroyed all available records on the market.

CROSS PURPOSES GREEK LP!
Je connaissais le pressage d'origine, celui de Russie (qui présente l'ange plus grand) et maintenant une édition rare grecque! Le montage de la pochette semble différent pour l'avant, un carré plus sombre entoure l'ange. La mention 'greece' figure sur le cercle central. En photo n°3 vous avez une partie du dos de la pochette.

KISS - Sonic Boom - Classic Rock Review

Voici le retour gagnant de Eric Singer, un des plus prestigieux batteurs du Hard Rock, avec une carrière sans faute, de Lita Ford, en passant par deux albums avec Black Sabbath (Seventh Star & Eternal Idol) puis Badlands avec son ami Ray Gillen, sans oublier par la suite Alice Cooper. Je me souviens de ce show du maitre de l'horreur au Schwung Fest en Belgique avec Eric, quelle claque, quel line-up, énorme prestation. Enfin, Eric passera aussi chez Queen, Gary Moore et une multitude de projets.
Aujourd'hui dans la peau de 'Peter Criss', il est le batteur du nouvel album studio de Kiss. Kiss qui joue un coup marketing important. Le visuel des membres originaux, mais sans Ace Frehley, ni même Peter Criss! Superbe invention que ce maquillage qui permet à Paul & Gene de jouer sur la nostalgie à fond les manettes! Yeah! Voir le visuel également du dernier studio, dans le trip ''Love Gun'. Bref, le maquillage était l'invention majeure de Kiss. Black Sabbath pour sa part, devait toujours s'adjoindre au minimum de Tony, Ozzy, Geezer pour faire jouer la carte du line-up originel. Sharon pensait que Bill Ward pouvait rester chez lui, sans doute que ce dernier était jugé trop 'risqué', erreur, les fans ont fait céder $haron en 2004. Pas moyen de maquiller un autre chanteur en Ozzy ou en Bill ou en Geezer... alors, forcément c'est plus chiant! Même si le rôle actuel de Singer est un peu discutable, dans cette copie conforme de Peter Criss, ce dernier joue le jeu que doivent lui dicter Paul & Gene deux redoutables managers. Bonne chance à ce mec sympathique qu'est Eric Singer, et que nous aimons particulièrement ici!
Kiss and hyperbole go hand in hand. Always have done, always will. Gene Simmons is talking about this album like it’s his second coming – which will doubtless please the insatiable ladies in the, er, Ladies Room.
Paul Stanley has got in the act too, calling Sonic Boom the best record Kiss have made in 30 years – putting it on a par with 1979’s illustrious Dynasty.
Of course, you can trust us at Classic Rock to boldly cut through the bluster and reveal the brutal, honest truth. And our verdict is… we agree.
Sonic Boom is bloody brilliant.
Kiss’s first new studio album in 11 years delivers the goods in spectacular fashion. It’s like waiting for a Tesco van to turn up outside your home and instead a Chieftain tank arrives, packed full of fillet steaks. If you read our preview on the CR website, you’ll doubtless remember the comment: ‘Kiss seem to have combined the best of all their eras into a single winning package.
So you get echoes of Rock And Roll Over – where the Flash Four added a neat commercial sheen to their hard rockin’ sensibilities – in the music as well as the album cover. Hints of the sprawling grandeur of Creatures Of The Night. Tinges of the chest-thumping teaze of Crazy Nights. So it goes on.
Yet Sonic Boom is no determinedly retro package. It’s purely the sound of Kiss playing to their strengths.
Kicking off in scintillating style with Modern Day Delilah, what’s evident immediately is the level of commitment from rhythm guitarist/vocalist Stanley. Sonic Boom probably wouldn’t have happened if the Starchild hadn’t
pulled the strings (leaving Gene dangling underneath the lighting rig)
and on …Delilah Stanley sings his platform soles off. Simmons sounds refreshed too, carving out his personaility on Russian Roulette and I´m An Animal with the sensitivity of a tattooist wielding a rusty steak-knife. Put simply, the Demon is back to his lascivious best.
There’s no Ace or Peter, of course. We never thought we’d write the following, but… we don’t miss ’em. Guitarist Tommy Thayer puts in a remarkable performance – akin to Eddie Van Halen replicating Frehley licks – and Thayer’s showcase song, When Lightning Strikes, isn’t half bad either. Ditto drummer Eric Singer, whose playing is impeccable, and whose singing on the chundering All For The Glory is every bit as good as Criss’s onBlack Diamond.
Standouts? Well, Stand is a 21st century God Gave Rock And Roll To You, no doubt about it; Danger Us is the sort of throwaway classic you thought Kiss had forgotten how to write; and Say Yeah is perhaps the most triumphal album closer of all time.
In a world without heroes, thank God Kiss are alive and licking once again.

Damian of the unofficial BLACK SABBATH web site Black-Sabbath.com shot some behind-the-scenes footage of HEAVEN & HELL's equipment set-up at the final date of the band's North American tour on August 29 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Watch the clip below.
The management for HEAVEN & HELL vocalist Ronnie James Dio released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET on August 27 in an attempt to "quash any rumors that [the group] have broken up." The statement read in part, "[HEAVEN & HELL guitarist] Tony Iommi has to have surgery on his hand and [needs] some down time for recovery. Therefore DIO [the band] will be performing some dates in the U.K. and Europe in November/December during this time off. HEAVEN & HELL are already making plans for dates next year."
In a recent interview with The Aquarian Weekly, Iommi stated about his upcoming surgery, "I've got to have an operation on my hand, and that's sort of a major thing I need to get done and I've been putting it off now. So we're going to have some time off while I get that done. That'll be a bit of a break, I think. Not for everybody, but it'll be some time off from touring for me for sure."
When asked what happened to his hand, Iommi replied, "The cartilage is gone from the thumb in my fingering hand. It's been like that now, to be honest, for a year and I've been taking anti-inflammatories and all sorts of stuff to try and calm it down, but it's inevitable I've got to have the operation because the bone is rubbing on the bone. Funny enough, I talked to Eddie Van Halen this morning, because he's had the same sort of problem, so I'm seeing him to have a chat about what happened to him. He thinks it's very successful, so we'll see."
